Abstract
The phenomenon that this thesis wants to investigate complementary therapy, in particular its use for the assistance of elderly patients in Italy and Sweden.
The elaboration began with bibliographic research, first in the libraries of Modena, then through the databases, articles and official websites of some significant institutions, looking for information that was as current as possible.
The first two chapters were written using reference from publications in the field of nursing in geriatrics, nursing care or more specifically of complementary therapy.
I consulted the official sites of the main European or national associations that deal with this type of treatment to write the paragraphs about the situation in Europe, Italy and Sweden.
In the fourth chapter I used mostly newspaper’s articles to describe initiatives and events, significant for the topic, in Italy and Sweden.
The result is a review of the situation of complementary medicines, starting from their first use until today, showing also their increasing in diffusion and use.
