Abstract

The thesis paper deals with home care at the end of life. The aim is to highlight the relational side of care between nurses and the family unit. The choice of this topic was born from a personal interest after having undertaken an internship experience in the palliative care unit of the Ausl of Modena. The paper begins with an introduction to Jean Watson's theory of human caring, paying particular attention to the caring relationship. The first chapter describes palliative care and the various care settings, more specifically the home care assistance, it is also described the role of the nurse and the legislation. The second chapter describes the relationship between nurse and family, and the strategies and tools that the nurse uses in communication. The third chapter illustrates the use of the patient's agenda and biographical narrative. Furthermore, some nursing diagnoses were developed with the related result indicators and interventions / activities, using the NANDA-I, NOC and NIC taxonomies.
The method used for the realization of the thesis includes a bibliographic search based on scientific literature, through the consultation of online catalogs BiblioMo and OPAC SBN; the search was then completed by consulting Google Books. Furthermore, the main secondary databases were consulted, such as: NICE, RNAO, ISS SNLG and Cochrane library. And primary databases, such as: PubMed and CINAHL; and search engines, such as: Google Scholar and OneClick. Institutional sites have also been consulted. The key terms used were: "palliative care", "home nursing assistance", "end of life care", "therapeutic relationship", "family caregiver", "assistenza domiciliare" and "cure palliative". All the irrelevant documents were excluded from the research.
