Abstract

Nursing care is a service to the person, the family and the community that takes place through specific, autonomous and complementary interventions of an intellectual, technical-scientific, managerial, relational and educational nature. In the light of this definition, it is clear that it is fundamental to enrich the training offer of future professionals with activities that allow to increase the transversal skills required for nurses to carry out their profession. In this context, peer education could be a catalyst for more well-trained nurses, which translates into greater well-being for the caregiver, for his family and for the community.

Initially this paper should have taken on an experimental character, with the aim of demonstrating the potential of peer education applied within a complex educational context such as that of nursing internships. However, given the organizational complexity, the project was considered impractical.
Despite the obstacles encountered in pursuing the initial idea, recognizing the great educational-educational value of peer education, it was decided to proceed, investigating other possible applications of the method.

In this regard, in the AA. 2018/2019 an experimental initiative called “Tutor D’aula” is launched at the CDL in Nursing at the University of Modena. The "tutor d'aula" initiative shows us another valid way of applying peer education, different from the practical reality of internships and laboratories, but still important and certainly very useful to students, especially for freshmen and for students transferred from other degree courses. In this context, after a detailed analysis of peer education, our proposal for a training event is born, entitled "teaching is learning twice", in order to train classroom tutors.
