Abstract
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons causing their progressive degeneration and subsequent death. The cognitive sphere of the person except in cases of previous dementia is not affected by the desease, leaving the subject lucid and aware. The paper is born from a personal and mature experience in bibliographic research in this clinical area. The theme is further enriched by experiences and autobiographical evidence from which emerges the importance of psychological support to the patient and caregiver. The critical analysis of the revision of the documentsshows that emotional support leadsto a rebirth and somethimes a revenge on the desease. Quality nursing care in a multidisciplinary team guarantees the global management of the patient and the family, which combined with the activation of resourcesand therapeutic diagnostic paths help to cope with the illness even with a fatal outcome.
