Abstract

Myocardial infarction is the most frequent cause of mortality and morbidity in the world. Death from ischemic heart disease in Italy accounts for 44 % of all deaths. When we talk about coronary syndrome we talk about a total or partial occlusion of the coronary vessel due to the rupture of a plaque, this is the mechanism underlying the acute coronary event. Acute coronary syndromes are divided into two categories: myocardial infarction with ST (STEMI) elevation and myocardial infarction without ST (NSTEMI) elevation. The STEMI certainly represents the case studies with the most serious picture of illness. The most appropriate treatment for coronary syndromes should be tailored to the individual patient according to the stratification of the risk, the availability of therapies and the organizational systems that guarantee their effectiveness.
The bibliographic research was conducted through the consultation of the CINAHL database, pubmed, the journal“The Journal of Cardiology” and the text “Advanced Life Support of the’European resuscitation Council”.
