Abstract

The present thesis paper deals with two organizational models in the management of patients suffering from mental disorder, with reference to the reality of Modena.
As a preliminary step, we proceeded to define the peculiarities and the historical evolution of community psychiatry through a general framework, the critical issues related to the interaction with the psychiatric patient were represented; and its management. The literature highlights how management models are characterized by considering not only the presence of organic and clinical needs, but also economic, social and physical ones (Biondi et al, 2018). Particular attention was given to issues related to the role of the nurse in the provision of care and in the development of a therapeutic-rehabilitative relationship (Art.4 Deontological Code of the Nurse). Attention was focused on two organizational and welfare models, which are more frequent on the subject, namely: The Case Management and Assertive Community Treatment.
In order to understand the limitations and opportunities associated with the adoption of these models, a systematic analysis of the literature was conducted. Specifically, the research was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, UpToDate. Furthermore, in order to consider the literature that is more inherent to the themes highlighted above, the search took place using Boolean operators such as AND, OR, NOT, and through the use of the following keywords: assertive community treatment, case management, mental health, nursing , nurse. Finally, we proceeded to consult magazines, textbooks and catalogues as well as documentation provided by the ASL of Modena.
