Abstract
This paper analyses the use of non-pharmacological methods as tools against the pain experienced by children with oncological diseases. In particular, smile therapy and its applications in a hospital setting are analysed. After an overview of pain in paediatric oncology patients and the methods used by nurses to relieve pain, smile therapy and clown activities in the context of paediatric oncology are discussed. The objective is to highlight the importance of holistic care, particularly emphasizing the possibility of nurses working in such an environment to apply their own creativity and to benefit from the advantages of smile therapy, both in treating pain in paediatric oncology patients and in their relationship with young patients and their families. To this end, cooperation between nurses and professional clowns is essential. For this thesis, a systematic review of the literature was done through bibliographic research and scientific articles found on databases such as UpToDate and Cinhal, using the search engine Google Scholar.
