Abstract

I chose this topic because I believe that, in certain emergency situations, a few more seconds of reflection may be sufficient to avoid irreversible and ominous consequences. This reflection takes on a critical character, analogous to the approach that the psychiatric nurse must have with regard to the tasks he is called to perform. I decided to give the first chapter the definition of psychiatric pathology, as well as its varied signs and symptoms. In the second chapter I outlined the approach that the nurse is required to adopt before, during and after the provision of assistance, more possibly holistic, to the patient with psychiatric disorders. While I was doing the internship at the Psychiatric Service of Diagnosis and Treatment of Carpi, I had the opportunity to compare myself closely with the reality of psychiatric illness, which is incomprehensible in the eyes of people when one thinks of stereotypes or the stigmatization of patients. In the third chapter I exposed the obligatory medical treatment and the mandatory health check, that is the forerunners of an initial evaluation of the assisted by the various figures involved, such as for example the police, the mayor and the doctors . Later I defined the patient's assessment by the treating team and then focused on how a nurse and patient care relationship is established. This link is essential to avoid situations that can be dangerous like the risk of suicide. Finally it seemed right to me to describe the importance of the basic training necessary for the provision of updated assistance. In conclusion, I believe that the nurse should carry out a careful critical reflection on himself, on his own potential and limits, so that he is able to provide appropriate assistance to the patient with psychiatric disorders.
