Abstract

This thesis work deals with a very hot issue of recent years: that of vaccine hesitancy. In particular, this thesis focuses on the reasons that encourage Italian parents to hesitate in the choice to vaccinate their children and therefore on the determinants that influence the choice to vaccine or not, but also on the strategies that can be used by healthcare professionals to bring parents to an informed, fair and conscious choice.
In this regard, communication is an essential tool to informe, educate and empower the citizen: nowadays good results in the practice of vaccination can only be achieved if people want to vaccinate themselves aware of the risks and benefits of vaccinations and not because they have to be vaccinated.
In Italy, in recent years, has been recorded a decrease in vaccination coverage below 95%, and for this reason it has been decided the extension (from 4 to 10) of the compulsory paediatric vaccinations, with the Law 31 July 2017, n°119.
The aim of this thesis is to investigate, through a literature review, how communication to the hesitant parent can implement the information and support effective choices on the topic of vaccinations.
