Abstract

The elaboration is based on the personal experience of training carried out at the Integrated Assistance Center of District 7 of the AUSL of Modena. The aim is to underline the importance of Palliative Care for the sick, with particular attention to the figure of the family caregiver in the context of home care.
The first chapter defines the Palliative Care, retracing its evolution, from the "Hospice movement" of Cicely Saunders to the first non-profit associations, up to now, analyzing their national, regional and local legislation.
The second chapter focuses on the patient's family context, especially on the caregiver's figure, while the third one analyzes the risk factors that the latter may encounter during the care of the sick family (burden syndrome), his needs and the interventions to be implemented to support it.
The fourth chapter describes a clinical case through care planning aimed at supporting the caregiver; an interview with open questions, a subsequent emotional test (Zarit's Scale) and an empathic attitude allowed to identify the most pertinent diagnoses and respond to the expressed needs.
In the conclusions a student's reflection develops with respect to the way in which, over time, nursing home care for the patient and the caregiver has improved thanks to a greater management of the whole family context.
