Abstract
The present elaborate tackles the topic of pain in emergency-urgency.
Pain, identified as the V vital parameter, must be investigated, assessed and treated effectively. The nurse has to detect the intensity of pain experienced by the assisted. She can use any of the validated evaluation scales. The most used in emergency-urgency is the NRS scale. The regional resolution document foresees the use of algorithms that allow the nurse to independently use drugs, where necessary and according to precise indications.
The Territorial Emergency Services have provided their personnel with the algorithms for the use of drugs, however the nurse is always in telephone or telemedicine contact with the physician in order to evaluate the intervention strategy. The algorithms are important for nurses, especially when they are operating on a non-medicalized ambulance, allowing them to act quickly and with extreme care.
The elaborate process illustrates the algorithm adopted by Emilia Romagna region to manage acute pain on an adult patient.
This thesis was carried out by systematically reviewing the literature, using the main search engines such as the Google Scholar and Google Books databases, according to relevance with MeSH words: “Emergency AND pain”, “pain”, “Acute pain”, “Types of pain”, “pain in critical area”.
