Abstract

This thesis deals with the assistance to the child affected by epileptic seizures and the treatment and cohabitation with this illness in the scholastic and non-scholastic environment.
This topic was chosen personally as a result of the internships carried out in the last two academic years in the Neurology and Neurosurgery units of the OCSAE of Baggiovara, which have raised my curiosity regarding the diagnosis of epilepsy, which, to date, is erroneously considered an extremely debilitating disease for those who suffer and for those who are in contact with it.
For this reason, with this thesis, I would like to underline the importance of education and information to the population to make us reflect on how the knowledge of a pathology can diminish prejudices and help not to make people feel "different". they are affected.
Epilepsy, in fact, is a controllable disease and the subject that is affected must become aware of it and do everything to live a normal life; it is not absolutely dangerous for those who live next to those who suffer, but can scare those who do not know this syndrome.
It is therefore fear, based on disinformation about the disease, the primary cause of discrimination and not the disease itself.
In fact, thanks to the project “Facciamo luce sull’epilessia...” supported by LICE in 2014, following the administration of tests and education and information within schools, the level of fear has been greatly reduced and the level of knowledge concerning epilepsy and management of epileptic seizures. The information provided in this thesis was mainly taken from the official website of the Italian League Against Epilepsy (LICE), from the international ILAE site (International League Against Epilepsy), following the guidelines provided by the National Institute of Health Care Excellence (NICE) , a British organization providing guidelines, diagnostic-therapeutic pathways, standards and indicators for the UK Health Service.
