Abstract

The goal of this project deal with a detailed analysis of the robotic surgery and its applications in Italy.
First of all has been considered the history of the surgery, paying attention on the robotic one and on the most common system used: the Da VINCI®.
The section which explains Da VINCI® robot, analyses physics components of the system and all of the main functions, extending the study on surgical sectors in which it is involves.
The topic of this work is the nurse and his role; Analyzing all the innovations of robotic surgery.
Afterwards the thesis deal with nursing's perioperative activities, paragraphs about this theme are splitted between phases: before, during and after operating.
During the first phase there is an analysis of the activities done by the nurse in order to prepare the patient for his surgery; paying attention on physical and mental preparation too.
After that, the paragraph about the "during" phase explains what denotes surgical environment and the specifics activities that nurses have to do there.
The last part it's about the post operating phase, where it's analysed the patient's treatment right after the surgery, deeply explaining all of the considerations the nurse has to do.
The main goal of this thesis is to develop an assistance plan where, following to the main diagnosis, it's faced a comparison between a radical prostatectomy surgery done with the standard technique "open" rather than the robotic one.
This comparison is made in order to find benefits gave by the robotic surgery that the open technique can't achieve.
