Abstract

This thesis work deals with the support that nurses give to small patients suffering from acute lymphatic leukemia and the psychological impact that this disease has on children and their family.  The choice of this topic follows my apprenticeship experience at the Pediatric Floor of Modena General Hospital where I had the opportunity to be in close contact with young patients and to learn more about their deseases. Especially, acute lymphatic leukemia is the most common childhood cancer, accounting for 35% of all cancers; among these the lymphatic leukemia acute disease has an incidence of 80%.
The first part of my thesis is about the pathology and the role the nurse has in the prevention and treatment of complications related to central venous access; secondly it examines the different nursing activities necessary to face the adverse reactions due to the antiblastic treatment.
Besides, when Leukemia occurs in small children, the all family is involved. This is why psychological support is fundamental. Also, it is very important for the family members to establish a trust relationship whit doctors and health workers who are close to them and the patient, including the nurse.
The third part of the thesis describes "La Casa Di Fausta “. Founded on 22 March 2016, it is based in the Maternal and Child Department of Modena General Hospital and closely collaborates with ASEOP. The main purpose of “La Casa di Fausta” is for the children to have the best quality of life and a “true healing”.  The recovery is not just about their health but also concerns  social and psychological well-being.
In the conclusive part of the thesis I have proposed, through the use of the tenth edition of the NANDA International taxonomy, a few nursing diagnoses and their result indicators (NOC) and interventions (NIC).
