Abstract
The purpose of this work is displaying the theoretical basis proper of the so-called Family-Centered Care assistive model by means of the study and the revision of a large scientific literature. This model lays the foundation for the important task of taking charge of the patients family in Intensive Care Units. Its core principles and its desired outcomes both as concerns the patients circle and the healthcare professionals represent two important aspects that are going to be investigated throughout the study.
The true aim of the whole dissertation is that of developing a useful tool providing successful guidelines for the assistance of critic hospitalized patients families and for their involvement in the users own health process. By pointing out the perspectives of some witnesses belonging to the healthcare professionals and to the patients families it is easy to highlight the strengths and the positive outcomes of this approach, and furthermore it is possible to propose a potential parallel experiment in Italian health agencies.
At the same time this work tries to fill a little niche inside the traditional know-how typical of healthcare professionals concerning the three-dimensional relationship among nurse-patient-family present inside ICUs. Indeed, the modern medicines holistic system suggests a totally renewed concept of healthcare that focuses on the patient, it puts him at the centre of everything. Nevertheless, many health agencies still ignore this vision, especially regarding the bond between the nurse and the clients family.
