Abstract

In Italy the figure of the nurse in compulsory schools is not provided. Despite the researchers claim that chronic diseases and health risks have increased in the pediatric; no professional figure has been identified yet, which manages to manage, and to protect the health of children in an area of intellectual and personal growth: the school.
The aim of this work is to analyze, through the literature, the nursing school assistance and the role of the nurse as guarantor of student health, with the aim to bring out any benefits and critical issues related to the figure, and to propose a project aimed at the insertion of the nurse in compulsory schools in Italy.
A bibliographic research was conducted using the main search engines: Google, Google Scholar and Google Books. The consultation of the primary databases followed: Cinahl, UpToDate, Pubmed, which made it possible to find the relevant literature. The keywords used are: schoolnurse, school health, nursing role, chronic disease, anda health promotion. The articles that were not relevant to the topic were not taken into consideration, articles not available in full text and articles not in english.
It was necessary to start with the analysis of school nursing care, the origins and role of the nurse in schools, with the aim of clarifying what is really required of this professional figure in the states where he is present, like America or England. Subsequently, the two main activities emerged from the articles will be analyzed, health promotion and management of chronic diseases in schools, of which practical examples will be proposed, related to the main health problems present in the pediatric population in Italy in recent years. Finally, ideas and projects will be identified to develop and strengthen this professional figure in Italian school contexts.
