Abstract

This paper aims to underline the importance of the new law n.219 / 2017 on informed consent and advance treatment provisions, to study the European scenarios and the reality of our territory, defining the role of the nurse.
The Italian state has promulgated a new law that guarantees people self-determination and provides for the provision of a treatment plan that responds to individual needs.
A literature review was conducted through research in major primary databases such as Pubmed and secondary databases such as Up to date and tertiary sources such as evidence-based books.
The available data highlight how the freedom of self-determination is appreciated both by the patient and by his family and by the operators having to take it into consideration within the course of treatment.
Since the enactment of the law there are still many considerations that must be made and many measures to be implemented, to ensure quality care, to people who claim their freedom to decide on the care to be subjected.
