Abstract

The research stems from the need to implement the transversal skills in nursing students through the use of peer education. Peer education is a learning method based on the horizontal transmission of knowledge, as well as of experiences and emotions within a peer group. The literature analysis shows how the methodology can increase not only the acquisition of educational skills useful for the future profession but also the development of life skills.
Main objectives of the project were the acquisition of educational skills, life skills and the achievement of learning objectives related to the development of a care plan with the use of NANDA, NOC, NIC taxonomies.
We propose a project of peer tutoring at the Nursing course of UNIMORE based on an episodic tutoring model in a small group. To evaluate the effectiveness, the PTEQ and CTPQ questionnaires were used, readapted by the study conducted by Iwasiw and Goldenberg (1993), based on a Likert scale from 1 to 5. After the intervention a focus group was held with the students peer tutor to evaluate the achievement of the proposed objectives.
The results show how the intervention was considered useful both by the tutor students, to increase their educational skills, and by the tutee students, who have taken advantage of a non-judgmental environment to clarify their doubts. The focus group also shows how the intervention has contributed to develop life skills.
The results, in accordance with the literature, suggest how the implementation of peer tutoring interventions within the university environment can be useful for the development of life skills and cross skills required in the labour market.
