Abstract

This thesis deals with the assistance and treatment of cerebral stroke, examining the latest scientific evidence and highlighting the role of the nurse of the stroke Unit in the treatment of this pathology. The choice of this topic was made both for personal interest and because the cerebral stroke represents more and more a major problem of public health: In fact it is the first cause of disability, the second of dementia and the third of death in the world Industrialized. In Italy, there are about 200,000 new cases each year (80% ischemic) and about 1 million people living with debilitating outcomes of the disease. The nurse represents one of the leading health professionals to take charge of the patient with this pathology whose care is not mainly centered on the research of the drug but rather on the rehabilitation path and on the maintenance of the abilities in order to be able to reduce prematurely the invalidating outcomes of the disease. It has emerged that the hospitalization of patients with cerebral stroke in a dedicated area with a multiprofessional team, the so-called "stroke Unit", reduces the relative risk of mortality by 18%. For these reasons the present elaborate has made me reflect on how the nursing care is constantly evolving and how important is the timeliness in taking charge of the load the person since the first onset of the pathology. In the last part of the elaborate a comparison was conducted between the stroke protocol of the Civil Hospital Sant'Agostino Estense of Modena, based on the national guidelines SPREAD 2016, and the International Guidelines AHA/ASA revised in 2018 from which emerges as the adherence of the route in our province is equal to the international indications.
