Abstract
Airways obstruction from foreign bodies represents, among children younger than three years old, one of the main causes of death. This also happens because of the fact that the intervention by bystanders, panicked and unprepared, is not timely. This type of injury often occurs during the mealtime and in presence of an adult. For this reason, with the adoption of trivial precautions it can be possible to prevent children's death by choking. If, unfortunately, prevention turns out to be not enough, it is important for parents, grandparents, teachers and for the children themselves, to be aware of the standard procedures to remove the obstruction from the airways of children
and infants, in order to solve the problem as soon as possible. The professional figure responsible for prevention and education is, according to the professional profile and the Deontological Code, the nurse.
