Abstract

In this paper, is proposed a project of an educational brochure. This booklet is aimed at patients who have previously contracted venous ulcer and who are at risk of recurrence. This tool aims to raise the awareness of how much is important a constant use of compression therapy and at the same time, to promote self-care thanks to the full collaboration with the trusted health professional, in order to avoid recurrence of the ulcer. The tool was developed by a research of literature obtained through the consultation of textbooks, websites, articles obtained from database (PubMed) and with the Google search engine using the search string "writing patient education materials".
In this case, patients are predominantly elderly. They are often affected by concomitant diseases or sometimes in social conditions that should not be underestimated. Careful clinical evaluation (from the first interview) will favor the correct classification of the initial conditions of both the patient and the ulcer, in order to implement the most appropriate treatment for that person.
For the construction of the brochure, it was therefore essential to evaluate (through the analysis of the bibliographic research) the factors that could have limited the adherence to compressive therapy. The goal of the professionals is to support these patients, with particular attention to the post-healing phase, to ensure their continuity of care and maintenance (for as long as possible) of the achieved state of health. From this research what emerged is the need for further support after the repair of the lesion, and for this reason it was decided to propose a written educational tool that can guide patients in the actions to be carried out and that helps them to avoid the recurrence of the ulcer and to improve their quality of life.
