Abstract

Among the many definitions of pain, the one adopted by the International Association for the Study of Pain (International Association for the Study of Pain, IAPS - 1986), defines it as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage". Precisely, we wanted to consider Acute Pain, described, in Nanda-I, by the sudden or slow onset of any intensity from mild to severe, with an expected or predictable term. Outlining the various evaluation methods, mainly pain scales, specifically those used by the patient's access to the Emergency Room Triage. We have also underlined the patient's diagnostic therapeutic path, starting from the identification of the color code up to the pharmacological and assistance treatment. In addition, we have presented a protocol of pain management of the Emergency Room Triage of the Modena's Polyclinic, which is still in the form of a draft and is being approved. When operational, the protocol will allow the nurse to manage pain-relieving therapy in case of moderate or severe pain. The purpose of this thesis does not stop only to highlight the various points of the therapeutic and care process, but is to encourage the direct use of nursing diagnoses during the patient's stay in the ward, as nurses have the ability to diagnose problems of the health of the patient.
