Abstract
Maxi-emergencies are unpredictable events which can cause problems for any
professional, but when it comes to healthcare, the system simply cannot collapse. That's why it is necessary to have proper plans ready to implement. This paper deals with the argument of maxi-emergencies in general and then analyses the hospital protocols PEIMAF and PEVAC of the Policlinico of Modena (the city hospital) and some extraordinary situations of emergency that occurred within the hospital in the last few years. The famous “Modenapark live 2017” event is then also examined in order to understand the management of a complicate situation that could have been extremely hard not only for the healthcare system, but also for the whole city of Modena.
