Abstract
The choice of this thesis was born of the internship experience at the Department of Infectious Diseases and the interest developed during infection control studies and in particular for surgical site infections (ISCs). The thesis aims at the adoption of general measures to prevent surgical site infections in the pre, intra and post-operative phases, by the healthcare staff and the patient itself.
It is a compilative thesis based on the research of scientific journals, bibliographic sources, regional and web research that have shown that observing some preventative measures are able to reduce the percentage of infection during the clinical care process of the patient who is a candidate for intervention surgical.
The thesis is made up of 5 chapters: the first chapters explain the definition of infection, epidemiology, risk factors, and prevention strategies of the surgical site infection; The following explains the importance of proper hand hygiene, as it is the most effective
measure to reduce the associated infections associated with care; in the last chapter I have created a guide line that can be viewed by the healthcare workers of the surgical departments, which is created after careful bibliographic research, is made up of
theoretical and practical illustrations.
