Abstract

Recently health care has been evolving through practices based on efficacy tests, development of new technologies, including those aimed to the information of citizens on health themes.
This has brought to a level of knowledge and awareness of users, never known in previous periods; so that the citizen has to be involved actively in the professional team. In last years, mainly in the Anglo-Saxon world, nurses have
begun to conduct initiatives to transform health care practices and organization to the families’, communities’ and interprofessional groups’ benefit; the whole process requires great leadership abilities to the clinical nurse. This thesis offers to investigate the abilities needed to the nurse so that he can be considered a good leader, and how to achieve them.
A review of the literature has been developed, by bibliographic research, consulting databases, on-line catalogues, the internet and books. From this review was found that good character and charismatic gifts go side by side with great communicative, organizational abilities and the skill to manage conflicts.
Concluding it became clear that all these skills if properly used by nurses able to value his own patients in a complete and holistic way helps to improve the outcomes and the quality of services offered to patients and caregivers.
