Abstract

This thesis analyses immobilization syndrome, it means a prolonged inactivity, bed rest that causes pathological changes in most organs and systems. Being able to move indipendetly is essential for everyone, especially for elderly. Therefore, satisfying the need for movement, even if not falling among the priority ones in the acute phase of a pathology, should not be underestimated. As a consequence, the recovery of locomotor functions, if delayed over time, become problematic, complex and sometimes completely impossible, particularly in elder people.
The role of nurse is fondamental in the process of prevention or rehabilitation. The quality of the relationship between patient and nurse is relevant because it influences the development of the process. Nurse’s aim is to involve elderly in activities that encourage the movement. In hospital the immobilization syndrome can occours or/and worsen due to the non involvement of elder patients in mobility events. For this reason there is a loss of mobility skills and independence during the recovery process.
In order to prevent the onset of the immobilization syndrome it’s possible to realize some prevention methods. In addition to traditional methods, such as active or passive mobilization, new methods have been studying in recent years. Among these one, dance has emerged. In fact has been seen that, on one hand dance can produce the same results as the traditional exercise, and on the other hand it can improve the psycological and social sphere.
In the final part of this work, has been planned the nursing care through the Nanda-I / NOC / NIC Taxonomy, both in patients with a risk of immobilization syndrome and on them who already have immobilization syndrome.
