Abstract
Pain is an extremely negative and traumatising experience that can worsen a childs physical and psychological conditions. Evaluating and managing pediatric pain is an essential but still clinically undeveloped issue.
This dissertation analyses the previous studies on pediatric pain evaluation and management in order to allow nurses to act consciously and knowingly.
The aim is to improve the quality of life of the both child and its family. Previous studies, scientific evidence and articles on nursing care for children affected by pain have been gathered and analysed.
The aim of this dissertation is to emphasise the importance of nursing care in treating childrens pain.
There are some difficulties regarding the need for further nursing education in the pediatric field because, although essential, it is often lacking. Such training is necessary, as a child needs different treatments compared with those given to adult patients.
In the last few years, this topic has become ever more important, together with a nurses role, as they care for the young patient 24/7.
To conclude, specific nursing procedures and training on managing pain are at the basis of the often undervalued effectiveness of nursing treatments.
