Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the various psycho-physical and social problems, the educational counselling of the subjects carrying tracheostomy, the involvement and support of the family/caregivers. The elaboration deals with the importance of improving and adapting assistance to the real needs of this type of patient. Taking care of patients with such a device provides specific attention to management of the following aspects: swallowing and nutrition, stoma care, tracheostomy tube management, aspiration and humidification, education and communication. Equally important is the time of discharge in which the assistance to the person falls exclusively on the family/caregivers, to whom we seek to provide the education necessary to avoid problems and difficulties at home in order to improve the quality of life.
