Abstract

Migraine is not a simple headache but it is a complex neurological syndrome, high prevalence in the population and represents an enormous burden for those who suffer, so as to affect the quality of life. The diagnosis requires a detailed interview with the patient and it’s based in the first place on the characteristics of the headache and associated symptoms and, subsequently, by any instrumental examinations. Treatment involves pharmacological “abortive” therapy aimed at relieving pain and associated symptoms during the acute phase, preventive pharmacological therapy with the aim of reducing the frequency of attacks and, in combination, an approach not pharmacological which may include modification of risk factors, massages, relaxation techniques, acupuncture and herbal remedies. The report will present the management of migraine, step by step, according to the guidelines MIPCA (Migraine in Primary Care Advisors), the first organization of the United Kingdom dedicated to improving primary care for patients with headaches, with Particular emphasis on the role of the nurse. The thesis aims to highlight the importance of the nursing figure in the care phases, especially its role in evaluating the severity of migraine and the impact of this on quality of life through questionnaires and evaluation scales. The nurse also plays a key role in educating the patient about potential risk factors, education to a proper lifestyle, insist on the importance of following a therapy and promoting the compilation of the headache diary on follow-up.
