Abstract

The aim of the thesis is to describe proper nursing care to a patient who has suffered a fracture of femur in the geriatric age, preventing postoperative complications. The paper highlights the importance of the nursing role in assisting the patient at all phases of surgery, from preoperative to postoperative. The thesis consists of a first introductory part describing the epidemiology and social impact of this problem. The first chapters deal with major risk factors and how the nurse has a major role in preventing these. In the last chapters, however, the various phases of the care path and the tasks the nurse has to perform to provide adequate nursing care is illustrated. The drawing follows the patient's clinical pathway: pre-hospital management, emergency department, preoperative management, in which several inspection visits are performed and all necessary examinations are performed; surgical intervention and ultimately the postoperative surgery in which wound healing, physical rehabilitation and safe discharge occur. The thesis highlights the autonomy acquired by nurses in taking care of the patient, thanks to the improvement of their knowledge and technical skills. The preoperative nurse takes care of the physical and psychological state of the person so that he can cope with the surgery. The nurse of the surgical unit is intended to prevent postoperative complications and promote an optimal restoration of the patient's psychophysical condition. To assist the person better throughout the clinical course, the nurse uses the "nursing care process", a method of identifying and troubleshooting who can provide individualized assistance.
