Abstract

As in most developed economies, Italy also has an aging population: over the last decades tha average age has risen and the percentage of individuals over retirement age has increased. This change is expected to have significant consequences on society, family and individuals with increased chronic degenerative pathologies and the trasfer from the place of treatment, the hospital, to the home environment. What happens when the sick, especially the chronically ill return home and have to reorganize their lives? Who takes care of them? In most cases it is the spouse or children who have to assist them with great commitment, physically, psychologically as well as in time consumption; this becomes even more complex when they are sharing the same four walls. But who takes care of the carer? Even without taking into consideration their needs and requirements the carer risks ending up in a whirl of unhappy negative feelings that can easily drag them towards depression. the risk of arriving at a point of complete derangement and burn out are clearly harmful to both the carer and for those being cared for. The carerbecomes a patient too, who, although does not ask for help, has a strong need to be listened to. Therefore, it is important to focus on the person who looks after other people's need, often left in the background. Specific research in chapter 7, illustrates the presentation of a real clinical case with the version of a NANDA-I Taxonomy Plan and its relative NOC and NIC. The literature review was carried out through the consultation of key primary and secondary databases, books and websites according to a systematic problem-solving process.
