Abstract

Background: the study aims to improve the care of the traumatized child in the General Emergency Department of the Modena Polyclinic by introducing the figure of the pediatric nurse in the European Trauma Course (ETC) model.
Method: the object of the research was pursued through a qualitative approach by giving a semi-stitched interview to 24 volunteer nurses of the General Emergency General of the Modena Polyclinic. Bibliographic research was carried out through the analysis of textbooks, manuals, articles, websites and major primary databases such as PubMed and UpToDate using the keywords "pediatric polytrauma", "major trauma AND child", "multiple trauma "," Management trauma "," injuries in child "," polytrauma child ".
Results: from the analysis emerges that nursing pediatrics is of paramount importance for the assistance of a traumatized child because the peculiarities of the small patient may put in difficulties the physicians and nurses experienced in the emergency of the adult. Through the personal experience of the candidates, the importance of pediatric nurse support is highlighted, especially with regard to the availability of venous access, drug dosage, vital parameter detection, and the approach to the small patient due to its instability emotional and family caretaking.
Conclusions: based on the findings from the predetermined target, there is an awareness of the need for a nursing pediatrician within the trauma team when the patient is in pediatric age, favoring different perspectives useful in refining the management of the child with politrauma through the experience of the nurses who work in this context.
