Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to talk about the model of sleep and rest in the hospital wards, analyzing the nursing role, with a final proposal of bundle. Writing the thesis, the latest scientific evidences were considered, through review of the latest literature. A bibliographic research was carried out , through secondary and primary databases: PubMed, Cinahl and The Cochrane library, using key words such as “sleep”, “sleep disorders”, “intensive care unit” , combined in different ways. The work examines the model of normal sleep, the possible alterations and their consequences, and the role of the nurses in preventing them, through planning appropriate interventions.
Later the critical care scope is explored, looking into the main factors of disturbance and awakening of this kind of patients and the interventions to put in place, which had shown effectiveness, through scientific studies. The thesis end with a proposal of bundle, in order to support the implementation of the interventions of proven effectiveness to facilitate the sleep of the critical patient.
