Abstract

In order to provide a quality healthcare, the nurse must acquire some fundamental skills, such as professionalism, competence, responsibility, attention and should have a critical and global approach towards clinical research. Now more than ever, clinical trials are an integral part of a treatment plan and involve the participation of all health workers, including the nurses. These last play a crucial role inside a clinical trial, because they must be able to provide a direct and of quality’s care. Also, nurses must communicate to colleagues relevant informations necessary for a study, from the start to its end, by ensuring a correct and complete transmission of informations and patient’s therapeutic education. Among Azienda Ospedaliero – Universitaria Policlinico of Modena, a reorganization of Oncology Centre allowed to organize an ad hoc department for clinical trials. I found this very interesting, leading my decision  to discuss about this topic. In fact, the observation of clinical  studies on patients during my oncology internship as well as the creation of the Centre for the experimental studies involving the research nurse, significantly aroused my interest, both from professional and human point of view. The target of the nurse research is to operate for the proper functioning of the study, by coordinating the care of those patients included in study protocol, leading the conclusion of the research, helping and training the nursing staff. At the end of my experience i can state that having professional figures with specialized skills  in different sectors is an added value  to reach best results for patients as well as for all healthcare system.
