Abstract
Patients’ sexual and relational needs are real and emergent also in psychiatric residential facilities. They are often perceived as a problem by mental health staff due to the lack of guidelines or policies, as well as due to the lack of training on the topic. In this study, we present a study protocol which has been submitted to Modena Ethical Committee addressing these issues in Modena Mental Health Department. The aim of this study protocol is to increase the awareness and inclusion of these needs in patients’ care, in order to offer an holistic care to our services users and reduce patients’ harmful behaviours.
