Abstract
The subject of the thesis study is the phenomenon of malnutrition in geriatric field with particular reference to the analysis of the nursing role in the assessment and nutritional care.
The first part discusses the problem of malnutrition in terms of definition, of potential risk factors and consequences, and of prevalence. Moreover, given the high prevalence it is highlighted malnutrition as a neglected problem.
In the third part describes in detail the Mini Nutritional Assessment, nutritional screening tool suitable for the elderly, which should be used routinely in hospitals in order to identify subjects malnourished and at risk of malnutrition, differentiating them from those who are well fed.
The aim of the thesis is to highlight the importance of the problem of malnutrition related to the nursing role, to describe the factors that nurses believe hindering the nutritional care and to propose strategies and solutions that you should implement to prevent the onset of malnutrition.
The second part focused attention to the nurse's role in nutritional care. In particular we highlight the reasons why nurses do not assess adequately the nutritional status, then are possible solutions that should be implemented to improve the nutritional care.
