Abstract
The dissertation aims to investigate diabetes mellitus type 1, in particular in the school-age child. It was chosen this topic for the therapeutic management complexity and the impact it has in terms of burden. the bibliography used has been sought in the main databases and updated books about the topic. Research has shown that the diagnosis is difficult to accept, and the therapy self management is complex in case of families composed by single parent or from foreign counties. School contexts shows little knowledge about the disease that needs increase. School nurse plays a key role in obtaining a continuity of care. The family role is constantly changing to adapt to the child’s growth. Familiar burden weights heavily on the members and they can get a good coping process in the event of child’s cooperation, good family relationships, absence of economics problems and active participation of parents in the therapeutic management.
