Abstract
The work aims to analyze schizophrenia, a mental disorder which condemns the patient to a irreversibly poor life as there are little chances to recovery from this illness.
From a medical point of view, an initial analysis will cover some of the most common methods of treatment, then move on to a detailed description of the new Finnish practice for the treatment of acute psychosis: the Open Dialogue.
Through a multi-professional approach and the immediate involvement of the whole patient’s social network into multiple meetings, we will demonstrate that creating a polyphonic dialogue among the participants has the healing power to bring out the patient's inherent resources (and family’s ones too), usually obscured by a disease that slowly detaches the patient from his/her real context.
