Abstract
In the present thesis the main work-related musculoskeletal disorders representing a possible occupational risk in nursing activity, and the main evaluation methods and preventive measures are described. Literature data show that nurses avere a relevant professional risk for the occurrence of muskoloskeletal disorders of the spine, and of the upper and lower limb, associated primarly to the manual handling of the patients. In addition specific activities, such as acitvities in operating rooms or in analys labs, may expose the nurses to additional risks, for the upper limb; finally home care nursing activity has peculiar characheristics that often detemine relevant risk s, including accidents, for the musculoskeletal system. Conasidering this premise, the occupational risks that may results in the onset of musculo-skeletal disorders have to be evaluated by the employer of a health -care facility ,according to specifi methods such as MAPO for maual handling of patients, in compliance with the provisions of the safety and healt at work laws.In addition t risk assessment adequate information and training of workers for the specific risks have to be provided, and collective and individual preventive measures, such a the use of specific aids for manual handling of the patients, have to be applied . Finally health care workers exposed to the risk of developing muscoloskeletal disorders must undergo medical exhaminations performed by an occupational physicians, in order to monitor their health status and certify their eligibility for the work activities.
