Abstract
Acute ischemic stroke is the third cause of death and the first cause of adult disability in the
world representing an important social and economic problem. The treatment of stroke is
strongly influenced by time factor, especially during the Golden Hour, the first hour after the
onset of simptoms on which the patient's prognosis will depend. This thesis aims to describe
the nursing assistence during this emergency, focusing on the management of function and
vital signs as crucial to improve outcomes and prevent the disabling effects on the patient. It is
analized the nursing intervention during the pre-hospital phase, where time factor and patient
stabilization are resulted to be essencial, and intra-hospital care which will determine the
election for thrombolytic treatment. The study will analize the main guidelines which the nurse
must follow and comparing them with a summary of articles and procedures, it will be
subsequently analyzed the structure and organization of Emilia-Romagna stroke network, and
in particular it will be shown the operating protocol of Nuovo Ospedale Civile San'Agostino
Estense (NOCSAE) of Baggiovara. Attention is also paid to other foundamental components of
emergency such as relational aspect and professional assesment of the effect of stress on its
work. Among the ideas that emerged there is a proposal to encourage the organization of the
methods of public information in order to improve the timeliness of intervent in the population
