Abstract

This thesis focuses on the last evidences regarding the main out-of-hospital first aid strategies. The differences between them and the characteristics of the countries where they are mainly implemented are examined. Further, the italian Emergency Medical Services and the nurse’s role in it are presented. The interest on this subject erose from the internship experienced in the Emergency Room of Carpi hospital. A literature review is carried out, starting from available articles in Medline and Cinahl databases, also including texts and books regarding the educational path of the “118 Modena Soccorso” staff. Further information come from health institutions websites regarding the Emergency Medical Services. The main outcomes show the high heterogeneity of different countries in the out-of-hospital first aid, and how hard is to compare them directly. Nevertheless, one fact is shared as crucial: the relevance of the early transport to hospital. Regarding the trauma victims, the evidences discourage the use of ALS. Concerning the remaining pathologies, there is not a lot of data available and other studies and researches are needed.
