Abstract
Schizophrenia is defined as a severe mental disorder, characterized by profound destruction of thought, affecting language, perception, and the sense of self. Often it includes psychotic experiences such as hearing voices or delusions. It can damage the functions through the loss of acquired skills to earn a livelihood, or the destruction of the studies. Usually the onset occurs at a young age and the disorder can become chronic.
The document deals with this mental disorder, analysing epidemiology, clinical picture, causes, course and prognosis. It examines the role of the nurse in the psychiatric context, particularly in relation to schizophrenia.
