Abstract
Hospitals are insitutions meant to provide diagnoses and medical treatment to patients but sometimes they can be places where a great variety of critical events may occur, ranging from the mere worsening of patient's conditions to serious cases of heart attack. In ordinary hospitalitation areas, it is often up to nurses to assess critical situations and alert professional medical personnel. It is nurses who monitor patients' vital parameters and take action in order to keep them stable, in accordance with a formally defined protocol. The main goal of this thesis is to emphasize the aforementioned aspect of nurses's profession, thus spreading knowledge about several are introduced in common practice. Grey licterature and digital databasers provide some Information about the Early Warning Score, conceived for the first time by Morgan, Williams & Wright in 1997. The EWS was subject to hundreds of modifications until the introduction in 2012, of the National Early Score by the London Royal College of Physicians. Using a standardized measurement for the serousness of a disease can ease professionists' task to correctly evaluate signs and symptoms of the clinical worsening of a patien and help them decide the correct measures to undertake.
