Abstract
The thesis deals with the different collateral effects of the chemotherapy in women suffering from breast cancer, the most diagnosed in the female gender. A particular attention has been brought to the alopecia induced by chemotherapy (CIA), collateral effect able to influence the compliance and the adhesion to the treatment and that can cause distress and alteration of body image and can negatively affect social relationships and the quality of life.
Different methods to prevent the CIA have been examined like the hemostatic drawstring and the therapies topical, but different studies have underling the safety and the effectiveness of the system of cooling of the scalp, a technique in continuous diffusion and in use especially in Canada and in Europe.
The purpose of this paper is to underline the role of the nurse as active and professional in both administration and management of the pharmacological treatment of the mammary tumor and the psychological, physical and educational support given to the person to help, to prevent or to check the collateral effect of the therapy.
