Abstract
This paper treats many aspects of pediatric polytrauma management.
The polytrauma is one third of the childhood mortality and one of the most important cause of physical and psychological disability. Therefore, taking into account its relevance both in mental and physical health and at social level, it results in being very important a proper management of the acute phase following a precise protocol of stabilization of vital functions and taking into account the time, without forgetting about the communication with the child and his parents.
In this thesis is underlined the importance of the different phases: the management of the polytrauma following the organization model of the European Trauma Course (ETC). This organization model includes teamwork and actuation of the scheme ABCDE, contemporary performed by many experts part of the working group (Trauma Team). Successively are emphasized the role of the triage nurse in the management of the child polytrauma, the support and the communication to the parents, being a reference and mitigating their worries in a critical and dramatic moment. Moreover, is underlined the importance of the nursing assistance of a clinical case through the assistance planning following the taxonomy NANDA-I, NOC and NIC, discussed at Policlinico di Modena, in which objectives and related nursing interventions are identified in favour of the child and his parents.
