Abstract
Malnutrition is a frequent complication in people with a neoplastic disease. Weight loss is associated with decreased survival, a poor response and/or tolerance to anticancer treatments, a reduced quality of life and longer duration of hospitalization. The nutritional screening aims to identify patients already malnourished and/or at risk of malnutrition, allowing the nurse to work together with others professional figures in the implementation and management of a customized therapeutic- nutritional plan. The main goal of this thesis is to understand the significance of malnutrition in oncology, focusing on the nurse’s role and skills in the management of side effects caused by anticancer therapies as they can lead to an insufficient nutritional intake and induce in the person nutritional deficiency, and in the management of artificial feeding.
