Abstract
The use of central venous catheter has now become essential in clinical
practice, for fluid, blood and blood products, medications, parenteral nutrition
administration, and to control the hemodynamic status of critically ill patients.
However, their use is burdened by infectious complications, which represent a
significant problem in terms of morbidity and mortality and health care costs.
Although it is unlikely that infections of central venous catheter can be
completelt eliminated, it is sure that their impact can be reduced strictly
controlling the factors associated with their colonization, as well as prevented
with a good catheter management. Nurse have an essential role in central

prevention of such complications becomes the main activity for the proper
management of CVC
