Abstract

The aim of the thesis is to identify the effectiveness of non-pharmacological treatments health adopted by the team for patient care management with dementia and the value of communication with people with cognitive impairment.
The first part illustrates the worldwide phenomenon of aging and in the Italian reality which shows a disproportionate increase in elderly people with chronic conditions and, in particular, with dementia. Below, it describes dementia, clinical cheracteristics, its classification, its epidemiology and functional and cognitive assessment scale that help define the diagnosis of the disease.
Next, the second chapter is fully devoted to the identification of cognitive and behavioral disorders that characterizes dementia. Therefore, after giving a general overview of the disease, we enter into the heart of the argument when, in the third and final chapter, it addresses the nursing care and management of patients with dementia. In particular, in the firt part of the third chapter, is discussed the problematic nature of the relationship  with this type of patient, identifying the type of communication techniques that are the basis of the relationship between operator and patient. In turn, it defines the concept of the therapeutic alliance that represents the basis for the therapeutic adherence of the patient to the nursing tretaments and from which it is easier tha t the patient participates actively in non- pharmacological interventions to theses cognitive rehabilitation. At the conclusion of the third chapter it is addressed the nursing management  of behavioral disorders.
In the annexes there are the multi-dimensional rating scale used to evaluate the  functional and cognitive status of the person with dementia.
