Abstract

This thesis aims to know more about palliative care, in particular end of life care because more and more people die for chronic degenerative diseases or therminal diseases. So, it is appropriate to guarantee to these patients appropriate care to allow them to conduct their last days or hours of life with dignity. According to patient’s wishes, the privileged place to conduct this last phase of life is the domicile; here, the nursing unit includes the patient and also the family unit that needs support too. In this context, the nurse has a key role; in collaboration with some others important professional roles, the nurse helps ensure dignified end of life. The purpose of this thesis is to delineate the responsibilities of nursing figure and for this reason we refer to guidelines of Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. Its recommendations should be adapted to the context, to the needings and decisions of the patient and the family unit. Lastly, it was elaborated a care plan following the taxonomy NANDA, NOC, NIC, referring to the case of nursing home care during the internship; through the international language, we can show how much the nurse can help people during their last phase of life.
