Abstract

The aim of this dissertation is to describe the out-of-hospital management of the STEMI myocardial infarction provided by nursing staff present on the ambulances in Modena (Italy).
STEMI is the term in use when a myocardial infarct presents on a 12-lead ECG with a ST segment elevation.
The treatment of a STEMI starts with the assessment of the chest pain and physical observations and collection of the past medical history. Afterwards a 12-lead ECG is sent to the cardiologist in charge of the territory area.  The administration of specific medications is led by an operative protocol called MANO.
This protocol allows the administration of different medications such as Morphine, Aspirin, Nitrates and Oxygen. Included in the protocol is the direct admission to the Cath-Lab of the referring hospital (NOCSAE, Modena).
The application of the protocol is authorised by law approval GPG/2016/582.
This dissertation includes research from different sources as bibliography, guidelines and nursing protocols and aims to highlight the importance of the nursing assessment and intervention of the STEMI in out-of-hospital setting.
